Contract Appointment: Term of Office of the Speaker

Job Profile:

  • Acts as the first point of contact with the Office of the Speaker
  • Manage the diary of the Speaker, make appointments and ensure prompt communication of diary changes
  • Arrange workshops and functions effectively, inclusive of planning and logistical arrangements
  • Liaise with Councillors, employees, management and the public
  • Compile a range of documentation inclusive of reports, letters, memoranda and minutes, ensuring that all documents adhere to the District Municipality’s standards
  • Prepare communications, speeches and announcements on behalf of the Speaker
  • Provide research assistance and obtain background information for the Speaker on certain issues
  • Monitor the implementation and execution of Council decisions
  • Manage the budget for the Office of the Speaker on a daily basis
  • Check that office initiatives comply with applicable legislation
  • Make travel arrangements for the Speaker, including accommodation arrangements
  • Advise the Speaker on travel arrangements to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Order and control stationery for the Office of the Speaker
  • Manage party political arrangements pertaining to the Speaker
    Requirements:
  • Grade 12
  • Computer literacy: MS Office
  • 5 – 8 years relevant administrative experience
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence
  • Good administrative and organisational skills and attention to detail, meeting procedure, writing and calculating skills
  • Sound interpersonal, negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Good communication and language skills
  • The ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Analytical skills
  • The ability to work in a political environment and be able to adapt to change
  • Must be willing to work overtime if and when required and attend meetings after hours
    Salary band: R255 348 – R331 332 per annum
